It all came good for Steve Haylett during his latest trip to the Cretelakes complex in France, but not before moving swims a few days into the trip!
Despite the slow start, Steve managed 16 fish over the course of four days from this new swim, including three upper forties and a 51lb 8oz mirror.
“Coming out late in the draw wasn’t the best start, but I did at least get a half-decent peg,” said Steve, but the action didn’t materalise and he opted for a swim move after a few days.
“The lake was weedy and I needed a full afternoon to find four good spots! Out went 10 Spombs of whole, halved and crumbed Secret 7 boilies coated in lots of matching Hemp Oil, Molasses and Secret 7 Liquid Food.
“It didn’t take long for a couple of bites to come my way, both slipping up to PB pop-ups. I had a really clean spot over towards the margin and changed from a pop-up to a S7 Corker match-the-hatch wafter with a fleck of pink on top. This change brought me two good forties amongst a number of others.
“The rain had been relentless over the week, with only one or two half-decent days, one of which saw me land my biggest fish of the week, a lovely 51lb 8oz mirror. All the spots were doing fish by this point, with regular baiting keeping the bites coming.
“During the four days in my new swim, I landed 16 fish in total, including three upper forties and a fifty. The move definitely paid off!”
