Roger Bacon’s audition for the 2023 Carp Angler of the Year continues to gather pace, after he landed his fifth 50lb-plus of the year – and this one wasn’t from Grenville!
Despite focusing a lot of his time on the Cambridgeshire syndicate in recent years, last year Roger acquired an RK Leisure ticket and has been putting in the occasional session in between Grenville trips.
Focusing on Kingsmead 1 for his recent visit, Roger managed a haul akin to something we are used to seeing on Grenville, comprising a fifty, a forty and 16 other fish to 36lb 1oz!
The pick of the trip was the famous mirror known as Scar at 54lb 12oz, which Roger backed up with the Football Sutton at 46lb 6oz as part of an incredible session.
It took a couple of days for Roger to get on the fish, but when he did the action was frantic, with fish giving themselves up regularly to his traps of Bug Hard Hookers tipped with 12mm Fruitylicious pop-ups, which he fished in conjunction with bags of Bug crumb.
Roger was fishing at approximately 40 yards, concentrating on a regularly topped-up area of 12mm Bug boilies and Crayfish Mini Mix pellets.
