The year’s first wave of UK carpers have been making their way over to France in recent weeks and many of whom have hit the ground running, despite some challenging early-spring conditions.

Tom Thirtle from Stafford headed over to the Carp Zoo for a week’s sport and capped a memorable visit with an enormous PB-shattering mirror of 68lb 8oz, a fish known as the Orangutan!

The 35-year-old roofer, who backed up the huge mirror with other fish to 47lb 2oz, said he was absolutely made up with the capture, which came to a Pink Peril hookbait fished a rod-length of the edge of an island over a mixture of 8mm Secret 7 and 15mm Bug boilies, all covered in lashing of matching Secret 7 and Bug Hydro Spod Syrups.
