ALWAYS KEEP AN OPEN MIND!
Part of the beauty of carp fishing is you never stop learning, even when you think you know a lake like the back of your hand.
Few people know Grenville Lake as well as Roger Bacon, but even he was forced into a major tactical change on his recent session, before bagging a number of fish to 39lb over the course of a few hours.
“Arriving at Grenville for a social trip with a mate, I had a plan to sit in the face of the strong wind forecast,” admitted Roger.
“With 15kg of mixed-sized Bug boilies out there, I thought it was just a matter of time before the bites started, but 48 hours passed and no fish had shown in the area; I really started to think a blank was a possibility.
“Then on the second afternoon, I saw a fish show about 100 yards up the bank about 40 yards out. The minutes later, I saw another! In came my right-hand rod, I changed over to a bag of Crayfish Mini Mix pellets and whacked it up the bank to the area. Ten minutes later, the rod tightened up and I was in! So two rods then went up the bank and 15 minutes later fish number two was in the net.
“Over the next hour I had another five bites, all on big Crayfish Mini Mix mesh bags and Secret 7 Corker wafters!
“The moral of the story is, always keep an open mind, even when you think you know a lake.”
