Steve Haylett took a rare opportunity to get out on the bank and spend a couple of nights on a local venue, where he managed to pick off a beautiful mirror displaying some stunning winter colours.

“With the weather seemingly good, I hoped for a bite or two going into the session,” said Steve.

“The bream on this lake seriously hinder your tactics, but the odd carp had been out at the beginning of the week, so I felt hopeful of a bite or two.

“My approach was to bait up with five Spombs of 8mm, 12mm and 15mm Bug boilies and fish double 18mm Bug hookbaits on a slip-D rig. This still resulted in the odd bream, but around 7 o’clock on second morning, my right-hander started peeling off and an insane fight ensued, before into the net went a beautiful 27lb 7oz mirror with its winter colours on show.”
