Sam Archer kicked off his campaign on a Cambridgeshire pit with The Bug by landing one of the lake’s largest residents, breaking his personal best in the process!
The 41lb 4oz mirror is the second of the lake’s two forties to fall to The Bug in recent weeks, following Matt Wren’s capture of a 41lb 14oz mirror on the same bait last month.
Sam said: “After arriving at the lake early, I set about trying to find a quick opportunity, but to no avail, so I decided to set up in a spot I had fished previously, knowing it had good form at this time of year.
“Keeping as quiet as possible, I lowered a couple of multi rigs with Bug hookbaits on to a clay spot just off the marginal shelf. I didn’t have to wait long, as just after dark I received a few beeps. Thinking it was a tench, I picked the rod up to be met by a big weight on the end. I instantly knew I was attached to something big. After a short but spirited fight, I soon had one the lake’s largest residents in the net and a new personal best of 41lb 4oz.
“A fantastic way to kick-start my campaign with The Bug!”
Sam fished a Bug pop-up on a multi rig over a scattering of Bug freebies.
