CHEW RECORD FALLS TO APEX-CAUGHT MONSTER!
When Nick Gahagan got the opportunity to fulfill a 20-year ambition to fish Chew Valley in Somerset, he certainly didn’t let the chance pass him by, setting a massive new lake record with a colossal 44lb 7oz pike!
Fishing from the bank, Nick set out with the plan to spod out a mixture of chopped-up fish, which he had soaked in red Apex Amino Bait Spray and oil for two weeks in advance. Opting for the Amino Bait Spray after being inspired by DNA consultant Ben Humber, Nick hoped this tactic would create a feeding frenzy amongst the trout and therefore pull in the pike. He hoped right.
Fishing near the baited area with a sardine deadbait that he injected with a mixture of oils and Amino Bait Spray, before giving it a few extra sprays upon casting out, Nick would receive a take from what he described as the best-fighting fish he’s ever caught.
“I thought she was going to spool me at one point,” said Nick, who knew instantly he was attached to one of Chew’s giants.
On the bank, a new lake record of 44lb 7oz was confirmed before the fish was returned and swam off healthily.
Congratulations once again, Nick! What a croc!
