Hull-based angler Josh Wilson set a new lake record and a new PB recently with the capture of an incredible estate-lake common.
The 17-year-old was an overnighter when he topped a four-fish catch with the queen of the lake, weighing in at over 30lb for the first time at 30lb 12oz.
Josh takes up the story: “I arrived at the venue to see a few anglers present, so went for a lap and found a few fish huddled up sunning themselves right at the other end. No other angler had noticed them, so I jumped at the opportunity and went into a peg I hadn’t fished it before.
“I got a Secret 7 Half Tones wafter mounted to my old faithful blow-back rig and placed it in position, along with around 20 or so Secret 7 freebies around it. I didn’t expect what happened next! Within an hour, my middle rod burst into life, resulting in an 18lb 12oz common. It was the quickest bite I’d had on the venue and was chuffed. I got the rod straight back on the spot and put a few more baits out.
“Incredibly, I was awoken from my slumber at 4.30 the next morning by the queen of the lake! Not only was it a new PB but also a new lake record at 30lb 12oz, her first time over the magical 30lb barrier. I was already blown away with how my session was going, but then added two more fish a few hours later. I’ve always had faith in Secret 7 and it’s been working wonders for me recently!”
