GRAND SLAMMED!
Big-carp season is really living up to its billing now and Ed Banks was amongst those who capitalised at the weekend, bagging himself a UK 50-pounder and a new lake record from the Doddington Lane Pits syndicate in Northamptonshire.
Known as the Grand and weighing in at 51lb 9oz, the huge mirror was one of three fish that came Ed’s way in the space of 15 hours following a change of swims.
Ed explained: “I moved to a swim where there was a fresh influx of water due to all the rain and put out 15 Spombs of crushed and whole Bug boilies, mixed in with some hemp and maize.
“The first bite out of the swim was a 25lb 2oz mirror. With the rod rebaited and recast, I topped up with a further eight Spombs and received a viscous take at 3am that morning. This turned out to be the Grand at a new top weight of 51lb 9oz and a new lake record!
Ed then added a 23lb common for his efforts.
All Ed’s fish were taken on 15mm white Bug Half Tones pop-ups plugged with putty so they presented like on a wafter.
