GAIN AN EDGE ON BOILIE AND PELLET WATERS

Boilie-and-pellet venues are becoming more and more prevalent these days, with fishery owners keen to ensure their fish get as much nourishment as possible from anglers’ baits.

But how do you gain an edge on venues when your bait options are so limited?

On the majority of boilie-and-pellet waters, the likelihood is the fish will have been reared on pellets, so pellets should form the mainstay of your mix. Usually these venues will supplement the fish’s diet with their own house pellets, so if you can get your hands on some of them, it’s wise to do so and put them in your mix.

The chances are these pellets will all be of the same size, either 8mm or 6mm, which means they will have the same breakdown speed, so one advantage you can give yourself is to mix in some pellets of different sizes to ensure the pellets are breaking down at different speeds and, consequently, giving off attraction for longer and at different rates.

In this particular example, we’ve mixed some Crayfish Maxi Mix pellets, which come in 4mm, 6mm and 8mm, with the fishery’s house pellets, and will be fishing solid bags of Crayfish Mini Mix pellets (1-2mm pellets) over the top.

Irrespective of the pulling power of pellets, no self-respecting carp would turn its nose up at boilies, but how about a boilie that matches the size of the pellets? That’s why our 8mm boilies are so popular and effective on these sorts of venues. Not only do they contain all the nourishment you’d expect from a high-quality boilie, their size perfectly mimics the food items the fish are so used to living on.

For good measure, give the whole mixture a good coating of Hydro Spod Syrup to help get the pellets and attraction down to the lakebed as quickly as possible. The dense, heavy Spod Syrup is a proven fish attractor at all times of the year.

Use a variety of different coloured hookbaits over the top until you find out which one the fish are more willing to take, and the likelihood is you’ll have done more than enough to out-fish the angler in the next swim along. Enjoy your fishing!

Try a variety of colours to see which works best on the day
