It has been an incredible start to the year for anglers across the country, but this capture has to be highlight of 2023 so far!
New DNA customer Phil Candlish decided he would give The Bug a go on his syndicate water, Monks Pit, this winter, and this is the result – a massive new lake record of 57lb 13oz.
“I’m absolutely blown away after catching my new UK personal best,” said Phil.
“It looked big when it went in the net, but I never realised just how big until I tried to lift it out; I thought the retainer was stuck on the bottom!”
Known as Black Spot, the fish took the lake record from a fish known as Dolly, which was caught just a few days before at 57lb 12oz.
Phil went in with an all-out Bug approach, fishing trimmed-down 18mm Bug Corker wafters in conjunction with PVA bags of crumbed Bug boilies and pellets.
Just for good measure, Phil also added a 39-pounder during the same session!
