Carthagena’s Brooke Lake syndicate is no pushover by any means, but Gary Ward has been making it look fairly easy over the past few months, taking seven fish in his past 14 nights, including a new personal best of 44lb.

The new PB was a common known as Bullnose and the highlight of a four-fish catch in a 48-hour session, falling to a 15mm Secret 7 pop-up over a prebaited area of 12mm and 15mm S7 boilies soaked in S7 Liquid Food and Betastim.

Gary said: “The morning prior to my capture of Bullnose, I had three fish in a mad two-hour spell, the biggest being a 25lb common known as Floppy Tail. With a few phone calls to rearrange work and get the go-ahead from the boss indoors, I stayed another night, just knowing one of the A-team would show up.

“I never dreamed it would be the jewel in the crown, smashing my UK PB common at a weight of 44lb. Since coming over to DNA, I have fished a total of 14 nights on the venue, resulting in seven fish in total, quite an impressive catch rate on a tricky venue.”
