PINCH ME; I MUST BE DREAMING!
Paul Mallinson is in dreamland at the moment, as his campaign on what is normally a very challenging northern syndicate continues to go from strength to strength.
His latest visit saw him tempt an old relic of a fish that has only ever graced the bank a handful of times over the decades, backed up by another cracking mirror.
“I seem to be on a roll at the moment,” said Mally!
“After finding some fish up on the shallows this week, I baited a close-in gravel hump with Crayfish pellets and crumbed Bug boilies. It took a few hours, but eventually it ripped off and the result was a little confusing at first, as I didn’t recognise what was clearly one of the big fish in the lake, weighing in at 35lb 14oz!
“Looking at the pics later, I realised it was one called the Perch, which had amazingly only ever been caught four times before that we know of since the early 1990s, a proper relic of a carp and one that I could never have dreamt of catching!
“The following morning the fish had clearly done the off, despite it being much the same conditions as the day before. I eventually tracked them down to another area between two islands and the following morning, at 5.30am, I was once again into a fish. This time it was one of the lake’s Dinks, a really cracking fish. I can’t quite believe how this season has gone so far, way beyond what I could have hoped for!”
