With conditions seemingly against him, Mick Bentley wasn’t quite expecting a session like the one he experienced when he visited Manor Farm Lake on the Linear Fisheries complex.

The 43-year-old from Wolverhampton would go on to cap a four-fish catch with a brand-new UK personal best, thanks to the capture of Mr Ridiculous at 42lb 10oz, which he backed up with a 36lb mirror, a 30lb common and a 20lb scaly mirror.

Mick said: “With high pressure and temperatures reaching 20-plus degrees, I knew the fishing was going to be tricky, so I went in softly with bait, starting with seven Spombs of Bug crumb and Crayfish Maxi Mix pellets with a heavy dose of Bug Hydro Spod Syrup, then topping up with five Spombs after every fish.

“It didn’t take long to get the first fish, a 20lb scaly mirror, then I steadily picked up the odd fish over the course of my session, adding an immaculate 30lb common, a 36lb breezeblock of a mirror and the icing on the cake, Mr Ridiculous at 42lb 10oz, a new UK PB.”

Mick fished to a gravel hump at 80 yards, offering Bug pop-ups on spinner rigs over a mixture of Bug crumb and Crayfish Maxi Mix pellets, all covered in Bug Hydro Spod Syrup.
