The imperious Roger Bacon has notched up 50-pounder number two for the year over at the amazing Grenville Lake syndicate in Cambridgeshire, thanks to the capture of a 50lb 4oz mirror.
Sub-zero overnight temperatures and very little wind are usually a recipe for a blank, especially on a big pit like Grenville, but Roger thought he would try his luck nonetheless.
Choosing a peg with some good winter form and fishing to a spot at 37.5 wraps, Roger introduced 15kg of 8mm, 12mm and 15mm Bug freezer boilies, which had been soaking for two days in Bug Liquid Food and were then covered in Bug Hydro Spod Syrup just before being deployed.
Over the top of the baited area, Roger fished his favoured Pink Peril pop-ups on long blow-back rigs, which were picked up by three fish the following morning, a fully scaled mirror of 32lb, another nice mirror of 36lb and the pick of the bunch, the 50lb-plus mirror.
After catching a 51lb 6oz mirror at the start of January, even by Roger’s impeccably high standards, that is an incredible start to the year!
