Roger Bacon continues to push the boundaries of carp-angling achievement on the amazing Grenvilles syndicate, picking off his third 50-pounder of the month from the venue!

Roger’s latest fifty, a 56lb 6oz mirror, was backed up by one of the lake’s stunning scaly mirrors of 37lb, along with a 34lb 14oz common, all coming within a six-hour feeding spell.

“I don’t know what I must have stood in recently, but three fifties in March from Grenvilles is beyond my wildest expectations,” said Roger.

“The conditions were rubbish for Grenvilles – sunny, still and high pressure – so I wasn’t really expecting to catch much, if anything, to be honest.

“I opened with my usual tactics of 10kg of Bug crumb and 5kg of whole Bug boilies, all soaked in loads of the matching Bug Liquid Food and Hydro Spod Syrup, along with some Betastim. As an aside, I’ve been going through loads of liquids recently, which I really feel has been a massive edge in attracting carp to the area and getting them to feed.

“There was very little activity around the lake, no doubt due to the conditions, but on the third day a couple of hours before dark, I had my first bite, which produced a beautiful 37lb scaly mirror. Later that night I added fish number two, a 34lb 14oz common, which I was buzzing with, as the lake hadn’t been fishing well in the recent conditions.

“At 3am, I had an absolute one-toner, the fish ripping line off the spool for a good 30-45 seconds. What followed was the longest fight I have had from any fish ever. Forty minutes later, the fish went over the net cord and I thought I had landed my biggest fish ever! It must have been the adrenaline and the dark, as it wasn’t quite a PB, but it was my third 50-pounder of the month at 56lb 6oz.”

As ever, all Roger’s fish gave themselves to Pink Perils pop-ups on his long blow-back rigs, fished over the baited area of his beloved Bug.
