SHAPING THE FUTURE – MASSIVE NEWS FOR 2025!
DNA Baits’ commitment towards bringing new sustainable, natural products to the angling market will gather pace at a significant rate of knots this year, following the opening of a black soldier fly (BSF) farm just a short journey from the company’s headquarters in Goole, East Yorkshire.
This exciting new project situated at The Maltings site in South Milford, North Yorkshire, is the result of many years of hard work by a true pioneer in the ‘edible insect’ sector, MyGroup, one of the North’s largest and most innovative waste-management companies, managed by Steve Carrie.
The farm’s ability to breed and rear BSF in-house to its own specifications is massively exciting news for DNA Baits and its sister match brand, Aquastim, as it opens the door to the possibility of new, cutting-edge products, and will further improve those already on the market.
In 2021, DNA launched one of the most exciting new baits to ever hit the angling market in the form of The Bug, derived from the meal of black soldier fly and complemented by a range of other natural ingredients. A relatively new concept at the time, The Bug has gone on to become a phenomenon and remains one of the most popular and prolific baits available on the carp market today.
The MyGroup BSF farm is now working exclusively with DNA and Aquastim to manufacture the perfect insect meal for the angling market. Thanks to this ability to control what the BSF fly are fed on, it is now possible for us to manage the exact level of micronutrients within the finished meal, ensuring it delivers the optimum nutritional profile to meet the specific dietary needs of fish.
In addition, this collaboration opens the door to an exciting new frontier in fishing-bait innovation through the integration of the in-house British Aqua Feeds hydrolysis plant. Using advanced hydrolysis processes, we will be able to extract and enhance key proteins, amino acids, and other bioavailable nutrients from BSF-derived products to bring a new range of bespoke hydrolysates to the angling market.
Moreover, these hydrolysates will not only optimise bait effectiveness but also support sustainable practices by utilising by-products in a circular economy model. Together, these innovations will further boost DNA’s ambition to provide the angling market with a new generation of environmentally responsible yet exceptionally effective products.
We look forward to bringing you further news about these exciting developments over the course of the year.
