Perry Alabaster added yet another new 40-pounder to his growing tally of UK big ’uns when he topped a nine-fish hit on the Monks Pit syndicate with a 42lb mirror known as Snowy.
As well as the forty, Perry got through to no fewer than five 30-pounders, his favoured Secret 7 and Crayfish combination once again proving irresistible to the Monks inhabitants.
“I spoke to my mate and fellow DNA user Billy Wells over the weekend, as I knew he was over at the lake,” said Perry.
“He’d only fished one night but had a couple of nice fish, so I decided to get over there pretty early on the Sunday to give myself the best chance of getting in a decent swim. Before Billy had left, I’d had my heart set on the Underpass swim, which had been in good form lately, but as more and more people turned up, I figured that waiting until the afternoon to drop in behind Bill might be a better option, as he was in a corner swim. Being tucked away in a corner always feels like a good option when there’s heavy angler pressure all over the lake.
“By Monday morning evening there were eight anglers on, which was busy for Monks Pit and very little was happening all over, but luckily for me, my corner had fish all over it. I tried to keep things as simple and stealthy as possible, just fishing Crayfish and S7 Corker dumbbell wafters in solid bags of Crayfish pellets over small scatterings of pellets, S7 chops and hemp.
“By Tuesday morning, I’d landed a couple of twenties and three thirties to 34lb, including a common I’d seen my mate, Mark, catch a month or so ago. I really wanted that one!
“I ended the session with nine fish in total, the highlight being a 42lb mirror known as Snowy, another carp that was very high up on my wish list which I’d never caught before!”
