Keeping alert and watching the water turned a potential blank into a successful session for Philip Crook when he paid a recent visit to Cromwell Lake.

The 33-year-old from Birmingham, who was visiting the Nottinghamshire day-ticket water for a 48-hour session, spotted a fish poke its head out of the water. He quickly tied up a solid bag packed full of Crayfish Mini Mix pellets, with a PB wafter as hookbait, and cast where he had seen the fish.

Just 10 minutes, the rod burst into the life and the result was a mirror of 37lb 4oz.
