An early-morning trip to Cardiff from his home in Bristol proved well worth the effort for Michael Watkins, as it resulted in the capture of a stunning 33lb 8oz common.

“I was up at 4am to leave my house and get over to the Wharf in Cardiff,” said Michael.

“When I got there, I walked the lake and saw nothing, so set up and flicked out two rods. Within an hour I saw a fish showed about 200 yards away, so I packed up and moved. Just an hour after getting the rods out, one of them ripped off with this banging 33lb 8oz common on the end. I was buzzing!”

Michael, who also had a 16lb mirror during his day session, fished a Bug hookbait on a slip-D rig and baited over the top with a spread of Bug freebies.
