Ben Tester may well have had karma and a little bit of intervention from the carp gods to thank for his capture of one of Sandhurst Lake’s most-coveted residents, as it came no more than half an hour after he had freed a fish from trailing line!
The 33-year-old from Heathfield was partway through his session on the Yateley day-ticket water when he foul-hooked an upper-thirty common trailing line and a lead. Having freed the fish and sent it on his way, just 30 minutes later he was doing battle with a fish that turned out to be the heavily plated, apple-sliced mirror known as Armadillo, tipping the scales at 41lb 15oz.
The magnificent-looking fish was also backed up by a 31lb common, both of them having fallen to 15mm Secret 7 Corker wafters from a gravel bar at 15 wraps amongst a mixture of whole and crumbed Secret 7 boilies and Crayfish Mini Mix pellets.
