Billy Morris had his year made in the space of 24 hours on the Elphicks complex in Kent, when he smashed his personal best on two separate occasions, beginning with a 43lb 1oz common and then topping it the next morning with a monster 51lb 2oz mirror!
Going in with our dedicated big-carp bait, SLK, the 32-year-old baited heavily with a mixture of whole and crumbed SLK boilies, Crayfish Mini Mix pellets, hemp, corn and maggots, and then fished SLK Hard Hookers tipped with 10mm PB pop-ups over the top. Each morning, the fish came in to graze over the spot and it was the two big ’uns that got to Billy’s hookbaits first!
“After turning up on Friday morning for a social with good friends and coming out seventh in the draw, I very was happy when my first pick of swims was still available.
“Wasting no time in finding my spots, I introduced 25 Spombs, hoping the carp would be up for a autumnal feed.
“The next day at around 5am, after listening to them boshing on my spot for several hours, my left-hand rod finally burst into life, resulting in a new PB common of 43lb 1oz. My trip was already made!
“The next morning at around the same time, they turned up again. This time it was the middle rod, which signalled a much slower take than the previous one. As soon as I picked up the rod, it felt heavy and the fish flat-rodded me, taking line and kitting from right to left going under my other lines. Finally, after a 15-minute battle and a few big head shakes, she broke the surface and I managed to slip my net under her body. Still not realising how big she was until I slipped her in my sling and went to lift her from the water’s edge, it then became apparent she was a lump! With help from a friend and the sling all zeroed, we lifted her up and watched as the need spun round to a massive 51lb 2oz. I couldn’t believe my luck! That was my fishing year made: two fish for 94lb 3oz and two PBs smashed.”
