The Wharf Pool syndicate’s coveted Black Spot has succumbed to DNA for the second time this year, this time almost 2lb heavier than its February capture at 56lb 4oz.

Michael Clarke, a 32-year-old railway engineer, was the latest angler to meet the fish’s acquaintance, following in the footsteps of Jamie Cramer a few months previously.

Michael said: “I arrived at the lake just before first light and two fish showed within five minutes of me being in the swim, so I knew that was my starting point. I baited the area, set the traps and went on to bag three fish, two twenties and an absolute unit of 56lb 4oz, giving me a new personal best.”

Michael tempted his fish from a silty patch in between two weedbeds, where he fished seven-inch spinner rigs over a mixture of whole and crumbed 8mm Bug and SLK boilies and pellets.
