Craig Newell might have had to wade through a multitude of catfish during his latest visit to Cackle Hill Lakes in Biddenden, but he didn’t care, as he was rewarded for his persistence with his first-ever 40lb-plus carp.
The mirror, which weighed in at 40lb on the nose, was one of four carp landed in between the cats by Craig, who already had so much faith in The Bug, so is understandably absolutely smitten with it now!
He said: “I hit the bank with 5kg of 8mm Bug boilies, 4mm Bug pellets and the Crayfish Mini Mix, with the plan to fish 15mm Bug Corker pop-ups on spinner rigs over the top.
“I introduced a spread of the mix on three different spots, feeding regularly as the session went on. After some horrid rain and a few catfish, I was into my first carp of the session in the early hours of Tuesday morning, a lovely 26lb mirror. I continued on feeding the spots and fishing through the catfish, before I finally hit into something that felt very different! As the fight unfolded, I saw the back of an incredible mirror grace the surface of the water. It had a head the width of a tyre and I was soon feeling the adrenaline rush you get when playing a big carp! Eventually she slid over the net and I looked down at what was potentially a new personal best, which the scales confirmed, revealing a weight of 40lb on the nose!
“I can’t thank The Bug enough for its luring properties to assist with these captures and would just like to thank you guys at DNA for delivering such an awesome bait that I have full confidence in wherever I go.”
