DEVON ROAD CAMPAIGN TOPPED BY BLACK SPOT COMMON!
A two-week campaign on DDAPS days-only water, Devon Road Lake, saw Andrew Denholm rattle off 11 fish in total, capped by one of the lake’s main target fish, the Black Spot Common at 40lb 8oz.
Andrew also managed five thirties for his efforts, including the Black Spot Mirror at 33lb 4oz, fishing a few different swims over the course of his mini campaign with his beloved Bug boilies.
The 54-year-old said: “Devon Road is a days-only lake, meaning a 4am start and packing away at 10.30pm each day. It is a very tricky lake, as the fish are old and tend to feed after anglers have packed away at night.
“I began my campaign on 23rd September. Getting the rods out late, at approximately 8am, I didn’t think I had a chance until the evening bite time, but at 12.30pm I had a double take, which was mad! My mate was there to help and I managed to land both fish, a 31lb common and a 23lb 8oz mirror called Apple Slice.
“The next day I banked a 25lb 4oz common, before moving to a different swim the following day and landing a 32lb 8oz common right on reeling-in time.
“I had no more fish until 29th September, which was the Full Moon. I caught a lovely mirror known as the Black Spot mirror early in the morning, then at 10pm that night managed the Black Spot Common of 40lb 8oz. I had baited with 30 Bug boilies over each rod and the rigs were out there for about 10 hours before it ripped off! I was absolutely buzzing to catch this fish.
“The rest of the week was a bit slow, but I prebaited a few spots and managed to catch a few more carp at the end of the second week. The carp are loving The Bug on Devon Road. I last fished in July and had five carp out in one day, which was crazy. A few of the other guys have changed over to it and I am sure they will start to catch a few as well!”
Andrew focused on 18mm Bug Corker wafters at the business end, which he fished over beds of matching 18mm Bug freebies.
