They certainly make ’em differently in Germany!
This absolute breeze block of a mirror had gone uncaught for more than two years until it fell victim to our premier big-fish bait, SLK.
Weighing in at a staggering 77lb 3oz (35kg), this colossal beast was caught by German legend, Christian Finkelde, during a recent trip to a large German gravel pit in the company of DNA Baits Germany social-media manager, Keven Gensty.
Christian takes up the story: “I finally hit the road again towards one of my favourite carp waters, a large German gravel pit where I have been concentrating my efforts recently with my mate Keven.
“The usual 90-minute journey to the lake this time took me four hours due to a traffic jam caused by an accident on the motorway. I arrived at the lake just before midnight, unloaded my car and parked it in the car park.
“The rods were set up and positioned by boat. Hookbaits were 26mm SLK shelf-life boilies. My two spots were baited with a mixture of SLK and Bug boilies, along with some Crayfish Mini Mix pellets, which had all been covered in SLK Liquid Food well before the start of the session.
“I set up my bivvy and went to bed, happy that everything was set up, with Keven just down to my right. The weather was perfect, with a strong wind blowing across the lake. I was very confident that night.
“At about 2.30am, I got a fast take on my right-hand rod. I grabbed the rod and got into the boat, gradually pumping myself towards the fish, which at this stage was still taking line. I got above the fish without it being snagged. The fish by now was over deep water and the battle began. It moved slowly and was extremely powerful. It took line several times, but I slowly managed to gain line and got it to the surface. The fish went in the net and straight away I could see it was huge. Immediately I had a feeling it could be a mirror, a big fish which had been uncaught for more than two years.
“It took me a while to row back to the swim against the wind, with the fish in tow. Back on the bank, Keven helped me weigh the fish. It looked absolutely perfect and was huge, weighing in at 35kg exactly!
“I was blown away. The SLK had once again proven successful.
The fish was in fact the elusive mirror which had not been caught for a long time. Thank you, SLK!”
