OFF THE SCALES!
A last-minute session resulted in a last-minute triumph for Andrew Jones, as he wrapped up a short, spur-of-the-moment trip to Lamby Lake in Wales with a fantastic mid-twenty fully scaled mirror.
“Having arrived at the lake at 7.30pm on the Saturday for a last-minute session, I opted to set up at the top of the lake where the fish were clearly loving the sunny weather,” said Andrew.
“With rods out on good spots, all I was to catch in the night were a few eels. Waking up early with only a few hours left, I decided on a move to the opposite end of the lake having seen a few fish show. I got the rods on to some showing fish with a little bit of the finest soaked and coated Bug boilies scattered around the area. It didn’t take long before the right-hand rod was melting off! I quickly jumped in the waders and was out into lake to stop the fish weeding me up. An awesome battle ensued before eventually the fish slid over the cord of the net.
“I was absolutely buzzing with this mega fully scaled mirror. It was as black as your hat and a really beautiful fish. It just goes to show you’ve got to work to get the result you want.”
A Pink Peril pop-up on a long spinner rig did the business for Andrew, who had baited with Bug boilies soaked in matching Bug Hydro Spod Syrup and coated in Insect Meal. He had also attached a small stick of Crayfish Mini Mix pellets, Insect Meal, Bug Liquid Food and Calanus Hydro for added attraction.
