WET BUT WORTH IT AS BRUCE BAGS FIRST UK 40!
Bruce Hough described his weekend session on his Shropshire syndicate as “wetter than an otter’s pocket”, but the carp certainly didn’t seem to mind the horrendous weather!
During a hectic spell of action, Bruce bagged himself five fish, capped by a milestone capture – his first-ever UK forty – a 43lb 11oz mirror known as the AC Mirror.
“On arrival at the syndicate, a solitary showing fish guided me to my choice of peg,” said Bruce.
“However, after a fruitless 24 hours, I began to think I’d made a mistake as I’d seen nothing more and the bobbins remained motionless. Added to this, on the second morning I took a soaking in the pouring rain at the crucial bite time, when a screaming run produced a small jack pike that was wrapped up in both lines! Although I’d lost a lot of line to its teeth, I meticulously reset both rods through the deluge.
“An hour later, my efforts were rewarded when the carp turned up in force! I don’t think I’ve ever been so wet on a session, as between 9.30am and 10pm I was constantly out rebating, recasting and swapping jackets; it was hard work, but my efforts produced something very special.
“I’ve been knocking on the door for a while now and this weekend it all finally came together and I can safely say it was well worth the soakings!
“By 10.30 that night, I had landed five, comprising a mid-double, three twenties to 29lb 14oz and a new PB and my first UK forty, a fish known as the AC Mirror, weighing in at an amazing 43lb 11oz!
“Once again, Bug Corker wafters were presented either side of a bed of house boilies and pellets that I had soaked in BetaStim and Hemp Oil.”
