Ben Watson experienced the most remarkable session on his club venue recently, breaking his PB not once, not twice, but three times in as many days, and each time on PB wafters!
The session started with two PB-busting mirrors of 36lb 1oz and 39lb 5oz, before he moved to a different lake and went on to bag the fish he had been after for more than six years, a fantastic common of 41lb 10oz.
The 39-year-old from Nottingham said: “What a week! After 15 years of trying to break my PB of 34lb 8oz, I managed to break it three times in three days.
“There was a cancellation on my club venue and I thought I would give it a shot. I got up at 4am to have a walk round and see if I could see any fish. I picked my spot, set up and put on the PB wafters. Well who would of thought it, the PB wafters would see me break my PB thanks to a 36lb 1oz mirror.
“With the rod back out, I stuck with the PB wafters and had a nice early-morning wake-up call the following morning with my second PB in 24 hours, a cracking mirror of 39lb 5oz!
“They say things come in threes and they definitely did for me. After moving to another of the club’s lakes, I set up home and found my spots. Within 24 hours of getting the rods out, I had another screamer on a PB wafter and after a good fight in then net went the big girl, a fish I had been after for more than six years. Not only was it my third PB in as many days, it was my first UK forty, a magnificent common of 41lb 10oz.”
Ben fished his PB wafters on slip-D rigs, each time fished over a bed of Bug freebies.
